Ok, disclaimer first - this is a quirky one!
We did renovations on our new home in late 2021. The place originally had carpets everywhere, apart from the kitchen, laundry and the immediate entry hall.
We didn't like the carpets.
While the real estate agent said they were fleshly cleaned (don't they always say that...) we were still adamant they would be changed.
We shopped for floating floor boards, found the perfect one, and did the whole thing ourselves!
We also painted the central, floating wall a deep black - we call it The Monolith!
Anyway, the point is this - we didn't want to punch holes in our newly refurbished and painted wall, AND I wanted to use the scraps of floor boards - I really like them!
So, enter - the CLOCK TOWER!
We had a living room clock from Target, a small crate from Ikea and a bunch of off-cuts from our floors. We put them together and made a multi-purpose caddy we can use to hold the clock, and some décor, a small pot plant or our tissue holder (we get hay fever!). We can also use it as a "drop tray"; very handy for car keys, masks and what-nots.
Here's how we attached the scrap of floor board to the crate:
Measure if the board fits into an internal side of the crate.
Pre-drill holes for your screws. Keep the screws short, just enough to hold the board.
For the clock, use a short screw as well, so it doesn't go through the back.
Use it for whatever you need in the living room or entrance hallway! Ours is located at the intersection of both areas, so we can see the time at the angles we need!
So, if you have scraps of floor boards, you can use them to create height and dimension to your décor, on top of extra storage! Make your small furniture practical and oh, so usable!
