This one's very simple.
We had very old Ikea shelves, one of the first furniture we ever bought. Sadly, while they were still in very good condition, they've reached their use as a shelving unit.
But we didn't want to just chuck them out because, like I said, the wooden shelves were still in a very good condition.
So, we re-purposed them into multi-purpose wooden crates.
If you have some spare wooden shelves, you can make them into simple and functional crates.
You can use them as:
Indoor plant holders if you are a green thumb (or have plants indoors),
Yarn box, to hold all your balls of yarn,
Crafting box to hold all your bigger bits and bobs that won't fit in your shelves or drawers,
A box for cushions, throws and blankets, or
...anything you need it for!
Here's the How To:
You'll need two shelves per box and some spare planks for the base.
Measure and cut the shelves in half.
Arrange the pieces into a square, securing them with some sticky tape. Make the corners with symbols (anything you want!) so you remember which ends go together.
Mark out where you need to drill to secure the corners together. We suggest to drill pilot holes first so that you can avoid splitting the wood.
When you're ready, screw together the corners of your box.
Decide which end is up, and screw in planks at the bottom for the base.
...and there you have it!
